Buses to and from Montreal pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL)

Montreal-Trudeau Airport is known by its code of YUL, and as the Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, in honour of former Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Elliott. The airport is large, handling over thirteen million passengers per annum, and is found approximately 20km from downtown Montreal. Its passengers have many options regarding ground transportation, including the several Montreal-Trudeau Airport buses that are available. By bus passengers can travel locally, as well as regionally, and to the popular destination of Mont-Tremblant. The local airport buses are a very cost efficient way of reaching either the city of Montreal or the Montreal-Trudeau Airport.

The airport of Montreal is one of the most important airports in the country of Canada, and is one of the four hubs of the airline company Air Canada. The airport consists of three concourses which are lettered A, B and C, and all handle arrival and departure flights by various airline companies. Concourse B is for international flights, Concourse A is the domestic terminal and Concourse C is from where many of the U.S. bound flights depart. The airport is also equipped with all the necessary facilities for passengers, with a good variety of shops and restaurants, banking services and VIP lounges. Arriving passengers can travel by one of the Montreal-Trudeau Airport buses to various destinations, and departing passengers will find that the buses are a convenient way to reach the airport as well.

Buses – Local Services

There are five public buses that serve the airport, that are operated by STM (Société de transport de Montréal), and a free minibus service that connects Montreal Airport with the VIA station in Dorval. The airport is located in the area of Dorval, and the station is just two kilometres from the airport. VIA Rail Canada is the rail company that offers inter-city connections in the country, and from Montreal, has services to Ottawa, Toronto, Kingston and Québec City.

Since 2010, STM has introduced a new airport bus service referred to as the 747 Montreal-Trudeau/Downtown route. It is a service that operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and throughout the year. Passengers can take this bus for connections to eight downtown stops, including the Berri-UQAM metro station, Central Station and the Lionel-Groulx metro station. The airport bus also drops passengers at the central bus station, for connections to regional bus services that are not directly available from the airport. The buses are frequently available between the hours of 08:30 and 20:00 (every 10 to 12 minutes), and operate every half an hour from 05:30 to 08:00. A bus is available every half an hour from 20:00 to 01:00 and every hour from 01:00 to 05:00. A ticket for the 747 Airport Bus will cost $8.00, and can be purchased from the International Currency Exchange (ICE) Counter on the internationals arrival level, or from the automated dispensers available on the arrival level as well. Tickets are also available from the bus driver, but the exact fare should be provided, and only in coins. The $8.00 fare also provides travellers with a transit pass valid on the STM bus and metro network for twenty-four hours. There is a STM information counter in the international arrivals area, and STM representatives are available to assist passengers nearby the bus stops outside the airport terminal.

Departing passengers will find travelling to the airport on the 747 Montreal-Trudeau/Downtown buses to be convenient as well, and can purchase tickets in the metro stations, at the central bus station (Gare d’autocars de Montreal), at the downtown tourist centre of Tourisme Québec and at the downtown Hilton Hotel.

The additional STM bus routes from Montreal-Trudeau Airport are the 204 Cardinal that heads west to the Terminus Fairview Pointe-Claire, stopping at Pine Beach and the Valois train stations, the 209 Des Sources to Dorval and Roxboro Pierrefonds train station, the 365 Lachine/Montreal-Trudeau/Des Sources to Lachine and the 378 Sauvé/Côte-Vertu/Montreal-Trudeau, travelling east to Saint-Laurent, with stops at Côte-Vertu Metro Station, the Montpellier Train Station and the Sauvé Metro Station. The last two bus services mentioned are overnight buses, that operate between 01:00am and 05:00, seven days a week, while the first two operate twenty-four hours a day. The 209 bus, however, is only available from Monday to Friday. The 204 Cardinal bus also heads east to Dorval, and the 365 Lachine bus also heads east to downtown Montreal with stops at the Atwater Metro station and the Frontenac Metro Station.
